Ralph Vern Henrickson, 101, Pierre, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

Ralph was born Aug. 20, 1912, in Sisseton, to Henry and Celia Henrickson. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1932. He joined the CCC in 1937 and the Naval Reserves during World War II.

He met Doris Krueger at a dance studio and they married in 1940. They lived in Minnesota, the farm in Sisseton, and for a time apart when he was in Alaska and she was in Montana.

Ralph worked for the South Dakota Division of Forestry and Parks as a district park supervisor and purchasing officer. He retired in 1977.

Ralph enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening.

Survivors include his children, Jerry and Doris Henrickson, Hot Springs, Ark., Gary and Donna Henrickson, Princeville, Hawaii, Verne and Ruth Henrickson and Orville and Linda Henrickson, all of Rapid City, and Arnie Henrickson, Pierre; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mayfred "Freddie" Denny, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Inez Poindexter, Aberdeen; many nieces and nephews; and cousin Lovina Thompson, Orange, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Doris; brothers Art and Don, and two grandsons, Gordon Henrickson and Steven Henrickson.

Private family services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Lutheran Memorial Church. Burial will be at a later date in Sisseton.
