BELLE FOURCHE - Seth Earl Abrahamson died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Fountain Springs Health Care in Rapid City.

He was born on July 4, 1920, to Clara (Seath) and Peter Abrahamson in Lyman County.

Seth worked hard as a youth in Lyman County on his family's small farm. He also talked about working for other farmers for "a dollar a day and room and board." His father had died young and Seth was there to help his mother after his older siblings had left the farm. He graduated Kennebec High School and worked for the CCC.

After his marriage to the love of his life, Leitha Ellis, they lived in Rapid City where he worked various jobs including Swanders Bakery and helping to build Ellsworth AFB. They moved to Belle Fourche where he helped his father-in-law, Carl Ellis, build his business, Grandview Hatchery and Locker Plant. Later he worked for the Baroid and Colloid bentonite companies as a heavy equipment operator and as a rural mail carrier. Again, he worked many and various jobs in order to support his family. He owned and operated two gas stations in Belle Fourche for many years. He worked for the Co-op company delivering propane to farmers and ranchers until he retired from that in 1985.

He worked as a broker-realtor for Dakota Belle Realty for many years, and then took care of their signs for more years after retiring from the selling end of the business. He drove school bus for the Belle Fourche School System for many, many years and enjoyed seeing the school children grow up and remember him.

Seth was above all a loving family man devoted to his community and church. He was a person born into a poor family who worked hard all of his life, became a successful businessman, sent his children through college, and lived debt-free. He enjoyed the love and respect of friends and family, and it was a privilege to have known him.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Phil) Pearson of Rapid City; his son, Roger (Bobbie) of LaPorte, Colo.; and his daughter, Carol (Marc) Gress of Meridian, Idaho. He has six beloved grandchildren, Paul Pearson, Andrea Summers, Brad Abrahamson, Jeff Abrahamson, Gwen Green and Greg Gress; and 11 beloved great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Dominic and Evelynn Summers, Ian Seth and Jack Pearson, Shane and Annika Abrahamson, Nathan and Julia Abrahamson, and Alicia and Cameron Green; his sister-in-law, Georgia Abrahamson of Spearfish; as well as various cousins and their children, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Leitha; his brothers, Lee and Mike Abrahamson; his sister, Thelma Swenson; and an infant sister.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Gail Arnold officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Interment will be at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.

Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church, Northern Hills Humane Society and the Humane Society of Rapid City.
