Richard (Dick) Johnson

U.S. Veteran Richard, "Dick" Johnson, 88, of Hill City, SD passed away on Friday, April 27, 2007 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD. Dick served his country in the US Army and when WWII started, Dick joined the US Navy.

Dick was born in Omaha, Ne. on June 21, 1918. He married his childhood sweetheart, Vivian on December 28, 1937 and they celebrated 68 years of marriage before she passed away in September of 2006. As a young man Dick joined the CCC, Civilian Construction Corp, during which time he worked in and around the Black Hills making many life long friends. He was an avid hiker and loved the Black Hills, where he climbed Mt Harney and Little Devil Tower many times, as well as many trips to Crazy Horse. Dick continued in his love of the outdoors and nature, still climbing into his mid 80's.

Dick is survived by a son; John Johnson of Hill City, SD, grandson; Clayton Johnson of Rapid City, SD, granddaughters; Stacey (Tim) Garner; Kris (Don) Larson of Missoula, Mt; four great granddaughters; Isabel and Ava Garner; Megan and Mollie Larson; half brother; Harold Peterson of Omaha plus close cousins of Omaha.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents and dear wife, Vivian.

A Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD.

A Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 3, 2007 at the Hill City Cemetery, in Hill City, SD with interment to follow.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills of Custer, SD.
