Collins Yellow Hawk was born October 10, 1919 at Okreek, South Dakota to Edward and Sophie (Roubideaux) Yellow Hawk and he entered into eternal rest on February 5, 2010 at the Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 90 years.

Collins attended school at Okreek. He volunteered for the Army on July 16, 1941 and was honorably discharged on October 13, 1945. He served in World War II and was a prisoner of war of the German government from December of 1944 until April of 1945. He was ranked as a Technician 5th Grade Headquarters Company 2nd Tank Battalion. His military occupation was that of a rifleman and his qualifications were mm rifle, ex rifle, ss carbine and ex tsmg.

Collins was in the Rhineland Ardennes, Central Europe and the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was decorated with 3 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge he came home and held various jobs.

Collins was never married and never had any children. He leaves to mourn his niece, Mercedes (Hampton) Andrews; his sister-in-law, Dora Yellow Hawk; his grandchildren: Barbara (Ivy) Timber, Ron Andrews, Judith Andrews, Judy (Neil) Hanson, Byron (Brenda) Andrews, Arlene Andrews, Kevin Andrews, 13 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Sophie; 3 sisters: Agnes, Elizabeth and Mary; 3 brothers: Stephan, Alfred and Christopher; 2 great-grandchildren: Derek Yellow Hawk and Wilson Andrews and a great-great-granddaughter, Faye Yellow Hawk.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Ponca United Church of Christ near Bonesteel. Burial will be in the Ponca United Church of Christ Cemetery, near St. Charles, SD. A wake service will begin on Thursday at the Church.
