Orville Emil Bloch

Orville Emil Bloch was born February 10, 1915 in Big Falls, WI and died May 28, 1983. As a member of Company E, 338th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division, First Lieutenant Orville E. Bloch received the Medal of Honor, Firezuola, Italy. September 22, 1944. Other service awards include: Military Cross of Valor (Italy), Free Polish Silver Cross. His military service spanned 1942-1970.

Source states CCC service F-19, Harding County, SD. April- September 1935. Camp AMR- 1 Fort Meade, SD. October 1935 - September 1937.

At the Civilian Conservation Corps camp, a counselor encouraged Bloch to go to college. He had only $55, but a great deal of confidence. North Dakota Agricultural College, now North Dakota State University, accepted him and helped him get a loan. His college effort was interrupted several times when he ran out of money.x
